The Department of Mechanical Engineering admits students throughout the academic year. There is no admission deadline. Only complete applications are considered for admission and graduate assistantships. Graduate Assistantships are usually awarded in mid-October for the Spring Semester and mid-March for the Fall semester (from the complete applications received).
Step 1 - Application Complete the on-line application and pay the application fee:
Step 2 - Transcripts
Official transcripts should be sent in a sealed envelope directly from the institution to the Admissions Office. Note: Until reciept of "official" transcripts students can only be conditionally admitted.
Mechanical Engineering will accept copies of official transcript for the application packet. A bachelor's degree from an accredited school is required. Schools must be accredited by the Council for Higher Education, or equivalent. A cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on previous coursework is required for full admission.
Step 3 - GRE Scores
GRE test must be less than five years old. The GRE testing site must send the GRE Scores directly to the Admissions Office. UW's institution code is 4855. A composite score minimum of 900 (master's) or 1,000 (doctoral) on the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the GRE is required for full admission. Step 4 - Letters of Recommendation
Three(3) Letters of Recommendation sent directly to the Department of Mechanical Engineering in sealed envelope from the recommender. All letters must be written on the ME Letter of Recommendation form. Letters recieved in any other format will not be included in the admission packet.
Step 5 - Statement of Purpose
A typed a one-page statement clearly stating your area of study (solid or thermal/fluids) and describing your objectives and/or focus in your particular area of study.
Step 6 - Graduate Assistantship Application (Optional)
Graduate Assistantship Application send to the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

TOEFL Scores
Official TOEFL Scores - sent to Admissions (school code is 4855).
A minimum score of 540 on the written exam, 207 on the computerized exam, or 76 on the Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) is required for full admission.
Note: If your TOEFL score does not reflect the minimum requirements, you have not taken the test, or you simply need supplemental English study before attending the University of Wyoming, you have the opportunity to attend our ELS Language Center to improve your English language skills and waive the TOEFL requirement. Step 8 - International Student Advisor's report
Required only if you are applying to the University of Wyoming from another U.S. college or university.
