A program educational objective is a description of the characteristics of some, most or all of the graduates from an engineering degree program at a time of approximately three to six years following graduation. Program educational objectives are consistent with the mission of the institution. Our curriculum and associated processes are planned and organized to assure that these objectives can be achieved. Processes include the means to develop, deliver, evaluate, and improve the curriculum.

Mechanical Engineering Educational Objectives

• ME OB 1 - Prepare graduates to solve open-ended problems and effectively communicate the solutions.
• ME OB 2 - Prepare graduates for the professional practice of mechanical engineering.
• ME OB 3 - Prepare graduates for independent learning.
• ME OB 4 - Instill an understanding of professional ethics and the relationship between the engineering profession and society in our graduates.

Program Outcomes

A program outcome is a skill, understanding, knowledge, or other characteristic of the graduates from an engineering program at the time of graduation. An outcome is demonstrated and assessed within the academic program.

Mechanical Engineering Program Outcomes

• ME OT 1 - Formulate engineering problems including identification of missing information and development of experimental data.
• ME OT 2 - Apply the fundamentals of mathematics, science, and engineering to the design and realization of mechanical systems.
• ME OT 3 - Demonstrate effective communication including presentation and interpretation of engineering information.
• ME OT 4 - Demonstrate contribution to multidisciplinary teams in the development of engineering solutions.
• ME OT 5 - Demonstrate the ability to engage in life-long learning in a technologically evolving profession.
• ME OT 6 - Demonstrate recognition of the professional, ethical, and societal responsibilities of the mechanical engineering profession.
