UW ME Head Appointed to NSFFebruary 5, 2008 - Demitris Kouris, Head of the University of Wyoming Mechanical Engineering Department will be joining the National Science Foundation (NSF) for a temporary appointment as the Program Director of the Nano/Bio Mechanics Program. His assignment is effective February 19, 2008, and will last for one or two years. The Nano and Bio Mechanics (NBM) program at NSF belongs to the Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI) organization in the Engineering Directorate. It supports research in mechanical properties of engineering materials and systems containing nanoscale features, such as grains, layers, precipitates or composites; mechanical properties of biological materials, which include cell, tissues, muscles, bones and prosthetic implants; design of materials suitable for prosthetic implants; relationship between nanomechanics, adhesion, and tribological properties; effects of environment, surface chemistry, and temperature: computational and experimental tools to study nano and bio mechanics of materials. |
