Oil Executive to Examine America's Energy SecurityFeb 13, 2008 - America's energy security will be the subject of a talk by Marathon Oil regional vice president Steven P. Guidry Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom. The UW School of Energy Resources, the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Department of Geology sponsor the free talk through a speakers series offered by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Guidry will present a comprehensive strategy to achieve America's energy security and economic competitiveness in the face of a dramatically increasing global demand for energy. He will outline how the United States can secure sufficient quantities of reliable, affordable energy, while safeguarding the environment, in order to win the global race for energy. "He will focus on presenting balanced solutions that include a concentration on energy efficiency, diversity of supply and technology," according to an API release. Following the talk from 3-4 p.m., API's interactive technology exhibition can be viewed in the ballroom. It shows how America's oil and natural gas companies use highly efficient and technologically advanced strategies to deliver energy security for future generations. Methods include 3-D and 4-D visualization (based on seismic technology), directional drilling and deepwater drill ships. Guidry is Marathon's regional vice president, U.S. Production Operations. He is responsible for all of Marathon's onshore and offshore production operations which currently include those located in Alaska, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, Louisiana, Wyoming and the Gulf of Mexico.
