Tau Beta Pi Elects 2008-09 OfficersMarch 10, 2008 - The Wyoming Alpha chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society completed its elections for the upcoming academic year on March 4, 2008. Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society, founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to recognize students of distinguished scholarship and exemplary character. There are now collegiate chapters at 230 US colleges and universities, active alumnus chapters in 16 districts across the country, and a total initiated membership of 481,914. Wyoming Alpha is the only Tau Beta Pi chapter in Wyoming. The chapter has traditionally been a very prominent student organization on the UW campus sponsoring tutoring for underclassmen, hosting biannual blood drives, coordinating the College of Engineering spring banquet, as well as other community projects. The Wyoming Alpha Chapter won the R.C. Matthews Award for the most outstanding chapter in the nation in 2001 and again in 2004. The chapter also won runner up honors for this same national award in 2002.
