Paul Dellenback

Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award

June 2, 2008 -Paul Dellenback joined the UW faculty in 1990 after completing his Ph.D. at Arizona State (1986) and teaching at Southern Methodist University for three years. His expertise is in the area of thermal and fluid sciences, leading to the teaching of engineering science courses in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics; undergraduate mechanical engineering courses in advanced thermodynamics; heat transfer and gas turbine engines; and graduate courses in fluid mechanics and heat
transfer.

Paul has served in the position of undergraduate program coordinator for mechanical engineering during the past two years, and is serving as acting department head in mechanical engineering during Professor Demitris Kouris’ temporary appointment at the National Science Foundation.

In addition, he is directing the thesis research of two M.S. students. The research projects include an experimental investigation of heat transfer enhancement downstream of oscillating jets using liquid crystals and color image processing (with Dan Kunkel), and modeling of gas turbine engine performance using synthetic fuels which has relevance to gasification and IGCC power generation (with Jared Strube).
