UW professor David Whitman recently accepted the position of National Council for Examiners of Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) president.

Whitman Assumes NCEES Presidency

A University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Applied Science professor is this year's National Council for Examiners of Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) president.

David Whitman, a professor of electrical and computer engineering, has also served as associate dean and professor in the department of chemical and petroleum engineering.

"NCEES will be busy with a number of issues, including additional education initiatives, computer-based testing and faculty licensure," says Whitman. "I'm confident that our committees and task forces will develop outstanding solutions to their specific charges."

Whitman has been a member of the Wyoming Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors since 2001. He has worked with the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam since 1996, and co-wrote the paper "Using the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination to Assess Academic Programs." Whitman was also the 2006-08 NCEES Western Zone vice president.

A licensed professional engineer in Wyoming since 1981, Whitman holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. degree in mineral engineering from UW.
