UW ITE - Best Student Chapter Award and Student Traffic Bowl ChampionsSeptember 28. 2009 The University of Wyoming Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter received the Best Student Chapter Award for the Western District for 2008-2009 and marked the second year in a row the chapter has won this award. The Chapter beat out 32 chapters in 13 states for the honor. Six students accepted the award in Denver in July. In addition, the UW Student Chapter won the first ever District 6 Student Traffic Bowl at the District 6 Meeting in Denver. The service portion focuses on volunteer activities. In past years the chapter has helped the City of Laramie with their Safe Routes to School Program by collecting traffic data to define routes for school children to use in an effort to promote more kids walking to school. The chapter is also working with Habitat for Humanity to arrange a volunteer day for chapter members to help with the construction of a new home. Fundraising is also key to the UW ITE chapter to support field trips and travel activities for the chapter. These activities also provide an opportunity for members to interact with the professional community and collect real-work data for transportation project. Students are often paid an hourly wage for their efforts as well as raising money for the chapter. |
