Civil Engineer Honored as one of UW's Outstanding Alumni

J. Kenneth “Ken” Kennedy will be honored as a recipient of the 2009 University of Wyoming Distinguished Alumni Award during Homecoming activities October 8-10. Ken is a consulting engineering and land surveyor from Wheatland, Wyoming. He received a B.S. from UW in civil engineering in 1948. He was a project engineer for the Wyoming Highway Department for eleven years (1954–1965) during which time he supervised design and construction of a farm-to-market road in Platte County and the location and construction of Interstate Highway I-25 in Platte County. He has served as City Engineer of Wheatland since 1965 and at various times for three other cities. He has been the County engineer for Platte County since 1965 and has been the engineer for three large irrigation districts in southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska. Ken was named Wyoming’s Eminent Engineer in 1982 by the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society. He was president of the Wyoming Engineering Society (WES) in 1978, named an Honorary Member of WES in 1980, and WES 2006 Outstanding Engineer.
Ken and Pat set up the J. Kenneth & Pat Kennedy Endowment, to sponsor the Engineering Summer Program which assists the College in offering high school juniors an opportunity to participate in a summer program of hands-on experiences in various engineering fields. We thank Ken and Pat for their generous support of the College and congratulate Ken for this well deserved honor.
